ABOUT Aquarian Drilling

Perth Water Bore Specialists Since 1994

Aquarian Drilling is a family-owned and operated Western Australian water bore drilling and repair company servicing Perth, the Perth Hills and surrounding areas.

Established in 1994, we have more than 30 years of practical experience in water bore drilling, bore repairs, pump systems, bore rehabilitation and groundwater systems across a wide range of Perth geological conditions.

The business is led by Steve Rowland, Managing Director and ADIA Licensed Driller #217, together with James Rowland, Licensed Electrical Contractor EC13614.

This combination of drilling, pump and electrical expertise allows Aquarian Drilling to provide a complete service. We can assess the bore, pump, electrical controls and water delivery system rather than looking at each component in isolation.

From drilling a new domestic or commercial water bore to diagnosing a difficult 30-year-old bore problem, our approach is based on practical experience, proper fault finding and finding the most appropriate long-term solution.

OUR STORY

Aquarian Drilling has been working with Perth groundwater systems since 1994.

Over more than three decades, we have drilled, repaired and maintained water bores across the Perth metropolitan area, coastal plain, Perth Hills and surrounding districts.

That experience has given us practical knowledge of the very different conditions found across Perth.

On the Swan Coastal Plain, our drilling experience includes formations such as Bassendean Sand, Spearwood Sand, Tamala Limestone, coffee rock and clay.

In the Perth Hills and foothills, conditions can be very different. Our experience includes laterite, clay, weathered and decomposed granite and hard fractured granite requiring specialised drilling techniques.

Importantly, our experience does not end once a bore has been drilled.

Aquarian Drilling has spent decades diagnosing and repairing existing water bores. This includes modern submersible systems as well as traditional Perth concrete wells and older bores using centrifugal pumps and spear systems.

That combination of new bore drilling and specialist repair experience gives us an understanding of how water bores perform not only when they are new, but after decades of operation.

A Family-Owned Perth Drilling Business

Aquarian Drilling remains a family-owned and operated Western Australian business.

Customers deal directly with the people responsible for assessing and carrying out the work.

Steve Rowland – Managing Director & Licensed Driller

Steve Rowland is the Managing Director of Aquarian Drilling and an ADIA Licensed Driller #217.

His experience covers domestic and commercial water bore drilling, bore construction, groundwater assessment, bore development, old well and bore repairs, re-boring, re-spearing, deep wells, pump systems and difficult bore fault diagnosis.

More than 30 years of drilling throughout Perth has also created an extensive body of practical knowledge and historical drilling information that Aquarian Drilling uses when assessing new projects.

James Rowland – Licensed Electrical Contractor

James Rowland provides specialist bore electrical expertise and is a Licensed Electrical Contractor EC13614.

His work includes submersible and centrifugal bore pumps, pump controls, electrical fault finding, motor testing, start equipment, automation, float controls and bore-related electrical failures.

Having specialist electrical capability within the team means we can investigate whether a problem originates from the bore, pump, motor, controls or electrical supply before recommending a repair.

More Than Water Bore Drillers

Drilling new water bores is a major part of what we do, but it is only one part of Aquarian Drilling.

We also specialise in diagnosing and repairing existing water bores and wells.

Our experience includes:

  • New domestic, commercial and rural water bore drilling
  • Perth Hills and hard-rock bore drilling
  • Water bore repairs and fault finding
  • Submersible and centrifugal bore pumps
  • Bore pump repairs and replacement
  • Old-style concrete well repairs
  • Deep well repairs
  • Re-boring and re-spearing
  • Bore re-sleeving
  • Bore rehabilitation and redevelopment
  • Air development and air-lifting
  • Chemical bore treatment
  • Down-hole bore camera inspections
  • Stuck and dropped pump recovery
  • Bore electrical fault finding
  • Pump controllers and automation
  • Bore-to-tank systems
  • Test pumping and flow assessment
  • Bore water meter installation

This breadth of experience is particularly valuable when an existing bore has failed.

The obvious solution is not always the correct one.

Repair Before Replacement

One of the principles behind our repair work is simple:

Find the fault before replacing the system.

A bore that has stopped producing water does not automatically need a new bore.

Likewise, low pressure does not automatically mean the pump has failed.

Depending on the system, the problem may be a failed non-return valve, suction leak, electrical fault, pump controller, capacitor, damaged pipework, falling water level, blocked screen, failed spear, sediment build-up, mineral fouling, damaged casing or the pump itself.

Older Perth wells and bores may also be suitable for re-spearing, re-boring, re-sleeving or rehabilitation.

Where repair is technically practical and economically sensible, we will assess that option before recommending complete replacement.

Where an existing bore has genuinely reached the end of its useful life, we can then design and quote a modern submersible water bore to replace it.

Perth Groundwater & Local Drilling Experience

Water bore drilling is highly location dependent.

Groundwater depth, geology, water quality and drilling conditions can change significantly across Perth.

Aquarian Drilling combines available groundwater information with our own historical drilling experience when assessing a property.

Over more than 30 years, our work has included water bores throughout Perth's northern, southern, eastern and western suburbs, the Swan Coastal Plain, Perth Hills and outer metropolitan areas.

This includes locations such as Joondalup, Hillarys, Karrinyup, Balcatta, Dianella, Morley, Bayswater, Ballajura, Alexander Heights, Willetton, Kalamunda, Mundaring, Stoneville, Mount Helena, Gidgegannup, Bullsbrook, Chittering and Bindoon.

Our project reports and technical articles document real drilling and repair work, including bore depths, geological formations, groundwater conditions, pump systems and the solutions used.
